"I am excited about the opportunity to build on 15 years of community service with four years of public service. My top priority is ensuring that Carrboro is a safe, welcoming, and affordable town for people of all ages, incomes, races, nationalities, religious and sexual preferences, and abilities. I would also like to bring more locally-owned businesses and living wage jobs to Carrboro, to help diversity our tax base."

"Carrboro is a hip, forward-thinking, and inclusive community. Our large student population adds to the town’s vibrancy. There are lots of locally-owned businesses including some terrific coffee shops and restaurants. We have a top-notch art and music scene. Bolin Forest serves as a quiet refuge. But most importantly, there is a strong sense of community in Carrboro, where neighbors take care of neighbors."

Susan Romaine is Town Council’s liaison to the Local Government Affordable Housing Collaborative, Intergovernmental Parks Work Group, Northern Transition Area Advisory Committee, and the Planning Board. In her professional life, she is a founder and director of two local nonprofit organizations: the local hunger relief initiative PORCH, and Orange County Living Wage. She is also very active in the Orange County Democratic Party, serving as chair of the Hogan Farms Precinct for 13 years. A native of Alexandria, VA, Susan graduated from the University of Virginia and later earned her master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago. She and her husband Craig have lived in Lake Hogan Farms since 2004, where they raised their three kids – Andrew, Catherine, and Nat – all graduates of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro public schools.
